Personal Reflection in CALL
The entire field experience gave me a new perspective on what it means to be an instructor in this era. The assignment revolves around my work on computer-assisted language learning, the implementation of using electronic sources, and experimenting with creativity to create online material classes. I observed my grades as they related to the project I created. The grades I observed were relative to the project that I created. Once, in the WebQuest section, I and my team chose 3-5 grade elementary school as the learning object and 1-2 grade elementary school as the listening material for the team project's lesson plan.
Furthermore, in some projects, I collaborated with the team to develop some kind of learning strategy utilizing technology, such as Webquest, reviewing available online resources for language learning, uploading video of reflection learning to Flipgrid, creating lesson material by making flashcards for UB-EYL, video podcast, and listening activity material for the team's lesson plan. This assignment was chosen for good learning because I learned so much about being an instructor and what it takes to be an instructor by using some decent material to get more attention from the students. I learned that a special education instructor must be able to wear many hats and be prepared for anything.
This experience provided me with something that my classes before this semester were unable to provide: the opportunity to learn and develop while creating learning materials for language learners. I believe that this experience, and others like it, allow students like me to learn firsthand from teachers. I also developed some of my own future teaching techniques by simulating teachers and what they have to go through. I applaud the lecturers for including this assignment experience as part of my college course, and I sincerely hope that more experiences like this are provided to students in the future, because experiences like this are extremely valuable to a student's development and knowledge of becoming an instructor.
This course has provided me with numerous new insights into the field of language learning. Here, I learned how to make language learning more appealing and less boring. Learning new languages becomes a more effective activity when people use the benefits of computers (refers to technology).
Before taking this class, I had no idea that software that I was already familiar with, such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint, could be used to make learning more interactive and effective, especially in the study-from-home era that we now live in. I also learned about new websites that I can use to help me with my language learning.
Designing class activities, which includes defining suitable learners for the course, creating lesson plans and student evaluations, and creating online resources for the class, are all important issues. This will be useful in the future because I am interested in teaching English, particularly to teenagers.
This class included some projects, the majority of which were completed in groups. It is critical for me to develop soft skills because I am well aware of my lack of many interpersonal skills. Things like group discussions, task division, working under a deadline, and so on will be extremely beneficial to me in the coming days.
I've learned a lot this semester. However I found this course interesting because it is so relevant to today's situation. Computer-Assisted Language Learning is very important to me because it appears that we are constantly battling with technology in today's classroom setting. The COVID-19's low level of preparedness has had a significant impact on my educational life, the abrupt shift in learning activity from offline to online learning. As a result, we must learn more about language learning through technology. This course taught me more about web-based learning, which I can use in my online classes, as well as how to create a learning design that will help me in my future career.
CALL has assisted me in expanding my knowledge of technology and language learning. I learned how to build my own website, how to create an e-portfolio using platforms I had never used before, and most importantly, how to design a learning activity using WebQuest, Storybird, Flipgrid, podcasts, lesson plans, and other tools. Personally, I believe that this course can make lessons much more interactive and engaging, and that it can pique the interest of even the most reluctant students.
